The air scrubber we use is a self-cleaning needlepoint bipolar ionization generator designed specifically for treating air in residential duct A/C systems( we have commercial and mini split unit options as well!). As the air flows past the iWave-R, positive and negative ions actively clean the supply air, reducing certain bacteria and viruses in the coil and living space. The ionization process also reduces smoke and odors (cooking, pet, VOCs), as well as other particles (no more sunbeams of dust) in the air.

The air scrubber will treat air in any brand of residential duct air conditioning systems up to 6 tons (2400 CFM) in size with no maintenance and no replacement parts for the life of the device. The Air Scrubber always works at peak performance, producing over 160 million ions/cc per polarity (320 million total ions/cc), more than any other ionizer product on the market. Its patented self-cleaning design includes a programmable cleaning cycle that can clean the emitter brushes every 1, 3, 5 or 10 days. The air scrubber is factory set to clean every third day, which is adequate for a typical installation. It does not create “black walls” as negative-only ionizer products will do.

UV Light for HVAC: Do they Work?

Germicidal or UV lights for HVAC systems are used to kill the DNA of germs, viruses, mold spores, bacteria and fungi as they pass through the air handler system.

A strategically placed UV light is very effective at killing close to one hundred percent of these harmful pollutants. Installing a UV light in your HVAC system the provides a cost-effective method to clean all the air as it passes through the system. Keep in mind these bulbs do burn out and require annual replacing.

How Do They Work?

UV lights for HVAC systems are designed to use a particular wavelength of light — 254 nanometers — that is absorbed by the DNA of microorganisms. After exposure to the UV light, the organisms are unable to produce the proteins they need to survive. Although the UV light does not kill the germs immediately, it nullifies their ability to cause harm and shortens their life span considerably.

What Are the Limits of UV Lights?

UV lights for your HVAC will not alleviate your symptoms caused by allergens, since dust as well as dead fungi will still be present. Also, if your HVAC system has damaged or leaky ducts, the vacuum created in the ducts could draw in new contaminates from attics and crawl spaces, limiting the UV light effectiveness. The UV light is only effective when microorganisms contact its light spectrum. Any of the aforementioned contaminates shielded from its light spectrum will survive.
